END OF TERM 1 EXTRA CURRICULAR SPORTS REPORT
This term the school’s extracurricular sports programme has continued to prosper. At present we have 16 different clubs on offer with 116 girls and 170 boys taking part on a regular basis, some of these pupils take part in more than one club.
The school has been represented in several competitions and leagues over the last term , both locally and nationally, with varying success.
Our Canoeists, have had fantastic successes so far this year, with pupils gaining British as well as Scottish rankings.
The School’s gymnastics squads won gold and silver medals in their respective groups in the Falkirk Schools Championships. Both teams will now go onto represent Falkirk schools in the national championships in Perth later this year.
Our swimming squads attended both the Falkirk School’s Gala: winning 3 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 4 bronze medals. At the Central Schools Gala they achieved one gold medal, three silver medals and 3 bronze medals. Jennifer Campbell, Aiden Waters, Christopher Campbell and Lewis Symon all achieved qualifying times for the Scottish schools Championships which will be held in the New Year.
At present we have 6 football teams, 4 boys teams and 2 girls teams. Unfortunately all our teams are now out of the Scottish cup, but continue to play in the Forth Valley Schools competitions, with the Under 15 team recording some excellent scores. The Junior girls team is also doing particularly well, scoring some excellent goals and winning games in the local competitions.
The School also has two boys basketball teams and one girls team, all have competed in the Scottish cup competition and continue to play in the local leagues as well as friendly games.
Our dance clubs continue to go from strength to strength, with several clubs being lead by senior pupils, we look forward to seeing their dances in the school dance show next term.
This week, several of our badminton players attended the Central Schools competition at Grangemouth sports complex and again we were very successful; Taylor Blair of 4th year completed the grand slam winning the intermediate boys singles, as well as the boys doubles with Andrew Muir 4th year and the Mixed doubles with Rachel Donaldson 4th year, Rachel also made it to the ¼ finals of the girls singles, with Andrew Barbour 5th year also making the semi finals of the boys singles and Andrew Kay with partner Ross Mclay reaching the semi finals of the boys doubles. In canoeing- Leone Glackin , Sophie and Rebecca Ogilvie of 1st year who are ranked 1st,2nd and 3rd in Britain at their age group.
Toni Boyd Who was 1st in the Scottish schools and is ranked 3rd in Britain in her age group.
Both Aidan Waters and Michael Brown represented great Britain in the World Cup Championships in Slovenia. Aidan is ranked 1st in Britain in the under 14 age group and Michael is ranked 1st in the under 16 age group.
In Football Daniel Wilcox 3rd year has been selected to play for the under 15 regional squad and Rachel Donaldson 4th year has been selected to play in the regional under 19 girls team.
In badminton Taylor Baird 4th year has been selected to play in the central schools team.
